About Takbo Taho!

Takbo Taho! is a 2D sidescrolling life simulation by PikseLaro, made for the UPLB Game Jam
2026 under the theme “Para Sa Streets”. You follow JayR D. Ogamo, a taho vendor who wants
nothing but the best for his family. His earnings come from peddling fresh taho around the
neighborhood, hoping each day’s take is enough to provide for his wife Lhablyn Babymarie and
their son Edgie.

The game wears its premise openly: between bills, family obligations, managing a business,
unexpected disasters, and difficult decisions, JayR learns the burdens no one else sees in
being a provider. Over the course of a month, players experience the quiet struggles that
define many Filipino households — every bill has a purpose, and every sacrifice is made out
of care and love.

The tone is slice-of-life rather than arcade. The hand-drawn art and the day-by-day structure
keep the focus on the story of a family staying afloat, with the vending loop as the engine
that drives it forward.

How to Play

The day is built around selling and managing:

  1. Move and interact. Use A and D to move your vendor; click to interact with customers,
menus, and objects throughout the game.
  2. Sell taho and manage resources. Prepare servings, keep your ingredients stocked, and
    earn money throughout the day.
  3. Play minigames. Various minigames let you serve customers efficiently, overcome daily
    challenges, and maximize your earnings.
  4. Manage your finances. At the end of each day, open the logbook and allocate your
earnings to bills, loans, upgrades, and family needs.

The loop is a slow build across the month: the selling pays the bills, the logbook decides
where the money goes, and the story beats land between the days. It is closer to a
management sim with a strong narrative frame than to a fast arcade seller.

The Month of JayR

The month structure is what separates Takbo Taho! from a pure vending game. Each day is a
chance to earn, and each night a decision about allocation. Because the demands — bills,
loans, upgrades, family needs — compete for the same pesos, the game keeps the pressure
meaningful without turning into a punishing survival sim.

The story is told through the rhythm of the month: small disasters, unexpected expenses, and
the quiet pride of keeping the family going. The developer frames it as a story about the
struggles of being a provider, and the mechanics back that up — you are always choosing what
matters most with limited money.

Tips for New Players

  • Keep the stock ready. Selling is only possible while you have servings to sell, so
restock ingredients before the day’s rush rather than after.
  • Use the minigames. They are the fastest path to maximizing a day’s earnings, so treat
them as a main loop, not a bonus.
  • Plan the logbook ahead. The end-of-day allocation is where the run is won or lost —
know what is due before the day ends and reserve for it.
  • Do not ignore the family needs. The story rewards a balanced budget; over-investing in
upgrades while neglecting household needs can stall the narrative.
  • Try the download version. The browser build is verified and complete, but the Windows
and Android builds exist if you want the standalone experience on another device.

The Setting

Taho is the classic Filipino morning snack — warm silken tofu with arnibal (brown sugar
syrup) and sago, sold from a vendor’s twin aluminum cans. Takbo Taho! uses that familiar
street image as the door into a much bigger story about family, debt, and daily survival.
The hand-drawn art and the neighborhood setting keep it grounded, and the theme “Para Sa
Streets” (for the streets) is a promise the game keeps: the streets are where the money is
made, and the family is why.
